Bio
Sanford retired after 37 yrs from Federal Civil Service in 2007. He held several positions at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, the last being a Production Controller in the Planning Department. He left in June 1986 to work at HQ U.S. Pacific Fleet as a Program Analyst in the Ship Maintenance & Repair Department.
He also retired after 35 combined yrs in the Hawaii Air National Guard and Air Force Reserves. He started in the 169th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron at Wheeler AFB in Aug 1969. After commissioning in Aug 1976, he was assigned to the 154th Fighter Squadron at Hickam AFB and later reassigned back to the 169th AC&W Squadron as its Executive Officer. In 1985 he transferred to the U.S. Air Force Reserve at HQ U.S. Pacific Command; assigned to the Special Forces Command. In 1987, he was assigned to U.S. Forces Japan at Yokota Air Base and later reassigned back to PACOM to serve as a Communications & Computer Systems Officer in the J6 Communication Division. He retired in the rank of Lt Col in June 2005.
Since 2009, he has developed a passion for teaching and has been a Substitute Teacher for the Hawaii Dept. of Education. He actively participates in STEM, robotics and cyber activities. He is also a life member of AFCEA Hawaii since 2001 and serves as a board member on its Education Foundation since 2018.
